European golf has grown by more than half in the past ten years new report reveals. As for the construction of courses on the continent it has accelerated to a growth of 85 per cent.
The Golf Research Group report also reveals that while European golf took 50 years to grow from 1,000 to 2,000 courses, the increase from 4,000 to 5,000 took just four.
Compared with USA which has a supply level of 23,000 people per 18 holes, Scotland (12,000/18) has the best provision, while Italy (443,000/18), where it’s still exclusive to the rich, languishes at the bottom of the league.
